Clear checks. Maintained standards. Greater confidence.
CPX verification helps client payroll providers demonstrate that they have supplied evidence of specified business and compliance requirements.
It also helps businesses understand what has been checked before contacting a provider through the CPX directory.
What is checked?
As part of the verification process, CPX requests and reviews evidence relating to specified firm-level requirements.
Anti-money laundering supervision
Evidence that the firm is registered with an appropriate anti-money laundering supervisory authority where required.
Data protection registration
Evidence of registration with the Information Commissioner's Office where required.
Professional indemnity insurance
Evidence that the firm holds current professional indemnity insurance.
Business information
Confirmation of the firm's identity, structure, contact information and how its client payroll services are delivered.
The exact requirements may be updated as CPX standards develop.
How verification works
- 1
The firm joins CPX and provides its business information.
- 2
The firm submits evidence of the requirements included within the CPX verification standard.
- 3
CPX reviews the submitted information and requests clarification where necessary.
- 4
Once the specified checks have been completed satisfactorily, the firm receives CPX Verified status.
- 5
The firm must keep its evidence current to maintain its verified status and public directory eligibility.
What does “Continuity Verified” mean?
Continuity Verified is a separate status showing that CPX has received and reviewed evidence of a signed continuity-of-practice arrangement between the member firm and a named continuity partner.
This does not mean CPX provides or guarantees emergency payroll cover. The participating firms remain responsible for their agreement, its suitability and its activation.
Verification must be maintained.
CPX records the renewal dates of relevant evidence and reminds members when updates are required.
Verification may be suspended or removed if:
- Required evidence expires
- Updated evidence is not provided
- Information supplied to CPX is found to be inaccurate
- The firm no longer meets the applicable membership requirements
- The firm breaches CPX membership standards
The limits of CPX verification
CPX verification confirms that defined checks have been completed using the information and evidence supplied to CPX.
It does not:
- Guarantee the quality or accuracy of a firm's payroll services
- Confirm the technical competence of every person working for the firm
- Guarantee that the firm is suitable for a particular client
- Replace a prospective client's own enquiries and due diligence
- Make CPX responsible for the actions or omissions of a member firm
- Constitute legal, regulatory or professional advice
Businesses should discuss their requirements directly with a provider and satisfy themselves that the provider is suitable before entering into an agreement.
